Grameenphone, the country's top mobile phone operator, has deposited last installment Tk 1,000 crore with BTRC before the deadline. Grameenphone has deposited the second and last installment of Tk 12,000 crore as per the court order out of the regulator's audit claim.
The operator on Tuesday paid Tk 1,000 crore to the Bangladesh Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (BTRC) as per the Supreme Court order.
Grameenphone handed over the check to the BTRC chairman at 2:45 pm. By giving this money, Grameenphone gave a total of 2 thousand crore Tk to BTRC. Speaking on the occasion, BTRC Chairman Zahurul Haque said, "BTRC works in the interest of the state and the country." Does not work in any personal interest. Another thing is that we are not extortionists. We work in a lawful manner with respect to the law.
At the same time, he thanked Grameenphone and said, "I thank them for the money that Grameenphone has paid during this national crisis."
Yasir Ajman, CEO of Grameenphone, said many problems can be solved by working together. We did that. We have already handed over the pay order check. We are happy to be able to pay ahead of schedule. We are getting all kinds of support from BTRC.
Explaining what he is doing for the country at the moment, the CEO said that Grameenphone has been working with A2I and DG Health from the beginning. Grameenphone is also doing various things including giving PPE to different hospitals, giving Tk one and a half thousand to one lakh people, standing by the side of common people through 'Calling My Country' campaign. He said good deeds should be encouraged. Good deeds have to be highlighted. Everyone needs to work together right now. Everyone should be encouraged by the opportunities we have provided with voice calls and the Internet.
