Kidney disease can develop for various reasons, and there are different types and stages of kidney disease. Here are some common causes and risk factors for kidney disease:

Diabetes: High blood sugar levels over time can damage the small blood vessels in the kidneys, reducing their ability to filter waste and excess fluids properly. This is called diabetic nephropathy.


Hypertension (High Blood Pressure): High blood pressure can strain the blood vessels in the kidneys, leading to kidney damage over time.


Autoimmune Diseases: Conditions like lupus and IgA nephropathy can cause the immune system to attack the kidneys, leading to inflammation and damage.


Infections: Certain infections, such as urinary tract infections or kidney infections, can damage the kidneys if left untreated.
